Let's accept for a moment that you are indeed two completely separate entities, manufacturer and retailer of manufacturer's products. We list companies by the company name so any title change associated with your site (if it isn't to Jespar-Bios Ltd.) will likely be to change it to Ost Cosmetics Ltd., not Plazan or Plazan Skin Care.

It is absolutely certain that the editors who explained how the site re-review SHOULD work, do NOT have interests in your competitors. So their description of the process was based on ODP ideals, best practice, and common activities.

You may, of course, assume whatever ulterior motives you wish. Recently I ran into a man who really believes the World Trade Center atrocity was engineered by "Skull and Bones" (a tiny college club) in order to invade Afghanistan. He didn't explain why anyone, least of all a tiny group of college alumni, would WANT to invade Afghanistan -- except for the the oil and the sunny beaches and zenophobic tribesmen and arctic winters, there's nothing there ... and there is no oil and no sunny beaches.

So I've sworn off trying to talk people out of what I regard as irrational paranoia.

very well put....? but did not answer the question, if the editor that does my section
has an interest in other cosmetic\ skin care sites.
i have looked hard at my listing page, and many other sites have much better, and more important, correct discriptions.

all i ask, is my site is correctly listed in DMOZ.

Great! That I can give you. Your site is correctly listed now, by ODP standards.

You're welcome.

I am sure that now I have questioned the ability and honesty of my editor,
that I am going to get nowhere with my request.

its like giving the bad guy a sheriffs badge,
for sure it will be abused

The fact that the editors will not do what you want, in contravention of the ODP rules, does not constitute abuse, and your characterization of it as such, along with your unsubstantiated allegation that the decisions are bieng made by an editor with a competitive motivation is, frankly, slanderous.

I suggest that you take a different tack.

And hutcheson already told you that your site is already listed correctly. Perhaps you missed that while you were suggesting the editor of that category was abusive.

The site is known to us.
The currect story is new. I can tell you that all the descriptions of how our proces works and what the different levels of editors can do is totaly, and absolutely totaly wrong.

Harty, if it is true, then you could help uncover a real scam within the ODP, get yourself and your site a vast amounty of publicity, probably get slashdotted too.

So you could try them, and if your sites (you'll need several: one could be dismisssed as a coincidence) are listed in a suspiciously short time, then blow the whistle and grab the glory.

If it isn't true, you'll have wasted resouce-zone time in telling us about it, and your own USD150+ in finding out where the real scam is.

ROFLMAO!!!

OMG that's the funniest thing I've read in a long time. :D

I never knew someone could get things so mixed up. If you're reading this, buddy, I think that "META editor" you met is pulling your leg big time.

Why bother to read public domain info about how we're organised when you can make it up?
  • Send $150 and get a listing eventually.
  • Don't complain if it takes too long or we'll ensure you never get one.
It's classic a lame scam relying upon that magic combination of greed and fear. I'm quite surprised they're using the traceable PayPal system though; haven't they heard of Western Union :) ?

Harty, you will find a lot of people who are frustrated because the ODP does not do what they think it should be doing in order to help them market their site.

And then you will find people who are going to try to prey on those people to make them spend money for no result.

We have (and want) no control over what people write about the ODP, or what they try to get others to do for money.

All we warn people is to be very very careful. Yes, there are some crooked ODP editors out there, I'm sure - if I knew who they were I would try to get them removed. There is a team who spend a lot of time finding these people - you will often find that the activities of crooked editors tend to be quite short-lived.

When such a crooked editor is found, often all listings that editor made are heavily scrutinised - and many of them delisted.

The person that loses? The poor guy who spent the money on a listing.

Just be careful, ok?
