Matt - I wonder if I can replicate what you are seeing? At top right on the front page of the site are links: English : Français : Italiano : Deutsch. If I click on English, and then on an item in the left menu e.g. jewelry, I see product descriptions that are certainly intended to be in English, though with some errors.

'Information' in the top menu leads to other sites, which are in various languages. That is a shade confusing, but not enough to disqualify the site from a listing in the English-language directory.

#2078 - Those listings were made when the categories were created in 1999. The links were not submitted. The editor no doubt looked for an authoritative source of basic information on each canton in English. The Swiss Federal Statistical Office helpfully provides some key data.

entertained myself for half an hour on that page, what I am seeing is
1) pages showing up as intended/correctly when clicking on those language buttons, are the French and Italian ones
2) German and English are a medley and a mess, seems like a unfinished page under development
3) if I click on English, the buttons/items on the left display as Rituelle Kunst, Teakholz Möbel, Dekoration, Malkunst, Sammlung, Schmuck, Keramik, Stoffe, Geschenke
4) for someone visiting these pages in English, from there on it is a lottery
5) is the 'schmuck' button showing up as 'jewelry' for you?

#2045 - #2047 : working on it. Could take some time. I see that Kroll is buying out Ibas, but at the moment they operate as separate companies, as far as I can see. From Kroll, one can reach a whole slew of Kroll and Ontrack websites, but not Ibas. Vogon is part of Ibas, as you say.

Jeanmanco,

Does this mean that they should only have a single presence on the directory, (per relevant category)?

Simon

PS did you actually 'choose' to do this part of the directory? it seems to be a hell of a job!

I have treated Kroll and Ontrack as the same company. I have treated Vogon and Ibas as the same company. So that means that we would not want separate listings from (for example) Kroll and Ontrack in the same category. It would not benefit our users. Each listing should lead to unique content.

I am an editall, which means that I can work in every part of the directory (except Kids and Teens, which requires a separate permission.) To use my time most effectively, I choose to work on:

a) categories of particular interest to me, where I have relevant knowledge.
b) categories in need of attention, where I have enough knowledge to help out, though hoping that better-qualified people will arrive to take over.
c) certain aspects of quality control. A number of editors work primarily or extensively on QC, most of whom are never seen in this thread. Far more QC work goes on internally.

ODP editors are volunteers, who cannot be ordered to work on anything!

As Vogon, Ibas Kroll AND Ontrack are the same company, should they all be treated as the same, and therefore have less listings as most of them say the same thing?

As I have already said, at this moment I do not see that as the exact situation.

1. Ontrack is part of Kroll, therefore Kroll listings have now been given preference. Ontrack listings survive only where there is no direct equivalent from Kroll. [Note: The ODP search is not updated in real time and so is still showing the old listings.]

2. Vogon is part of Ibas, so Ibas listings have now been given preference. If I recall correctly, there are no Vogon listings remaining. [Note: The ODP search is not updated in real time and so is still showing the old listings.]

3. Kroll is taking over Ibas, but at the moment the two are not running as one company. The sites are not giving the same information. The situation may change. But right now I am not inclined to remove all the Ibas listings.

Of course other editors are free to review the case.
