Hi kctipton,

Another ODP editor suggested I post my list here in this thread. Please accept my apologies if it is not the correct place for it.

There are some dead links/sites and inappropriate content in the list although a lot of it is just mis-categorized IMO. I can not contact any editors directly as I need to remain anonymous. I would appreciate it if any editor could forward the post (or a link to it) on my behalf. It would be a shame to let all that work go to waste.

Hello All,
I have noticed problems in the category months ago but was waiting until an editor stumbled upon them, but it has been months since it has been edited so here I am.
http://www.dmoz.com/Games/Video_Games/Recreation/Browser_Based/Free_Gambling_Games/
As I am fully aware of the spam and deception in a category like this one, it would be difficult to find the energy to edit it. Hopefully, an editor will sacrafice a little time and patience to adding some more quality content to this category for your patrons.
After I noticed these discrepancies, I applied myself to edit it as it had no editor and was a small category but was denied.
My mistake for adding my own site, which offers much better content (over 70 free gambling games), but I digress.
So now I am just trying to help out. As this category was last edited in December of 2003, Surely changes have been made to sites listed here. In my oppinion, the whole category needs editing but I will just mention the obvious errors.

"Casino Games 42"(casinogames42.com) only lists affiliate casinos and has no use in this category as it doesn't supply any free games. Maybe should be moved to a more appropriate category.

"Jacks or Better" (onlinecasino.com/fun/games/vidpoker/) supplies one Lo quality browser based game with an amazing 17 affiliate banners on that 1 page, not to mention impossible to < BACK out of the site without being bombarded by affiliate popups.

There you have it, my 2 cents.
I, as well as many others appreciate your time and will and do wait patiently for our review.

Best...

Government site abuse

Dear Masters,
a lovely government URL http://www.ci.las-vegas.nv.us/ listed under dmoz category :
http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/Nevada/Localities/L/Las_Vegas/Government/

just because government didn't make the payment on time for the domain it has been taken over by travelnice.com and paradisefoundtours.com unfortunately these companies use this highly ranked government page as a advertisement board for their websites.
I have reported to yahoo and yahoo already took care of it, the site doesn't deserve to be listed under government listing. I will also report to google.
I will be happy to see if dmoz remove or move this listing under where it deserves.
I hope this information help.
thank you

#1025 - I am no expert on games and gambling, but am inclined to agree with your view of the two listings you mention. (The first does offer free games, but the affiliate content dominates.) So changes have been made, but will not be visible for a while on the public side.

Hi I noticed this a week or two ago and I couldnt see much information on the software aspect of gambling - This catagory also requires an editor and desperate updating.

http://www.dmoz.com/Games/Gambling/Software/

has this site listed -

'Football Data' http://www.football-data.co.uk - Provides soccer results and match statistics ready for use with spreadsheet applications to help with computer-based betting systems.

To me there just seems to be a huge list of affiliate banners, which I regard as very spammy and very little use for people who want help with their gambling! Like me ;)

Can somebody take a look at this?

Double listing with different names but same url

The site http://www.translations-english-spanish.com/ is listed in the category http://dmoz.org/Business/Business_S...nslation/Single_Language/English_and_Spanish/ with the name English Spanish Translations and is listed in the category http://dmoz.org/Business/Business_S...ultiple_Language/North_America/United_States/ with the false name The Bureau of Online Translations.

Hope you could get in contact with the editor of the categories and solved, thank you.

There's nothing wrong with the forum -- I merged your post with this thread as we would like to keep this type of report in this thread.

Feel free to report anything else you find. :)
