The editors that categorized my site as "spam" stand corrected. My site does not "spam" anything -- in any way, shape or form -- and by you stating this was the decision basis for the exclusion
I told you I didn't look at the site. But I do trust the decisions made by my very experienced fellow editors in these matters. I have now looked and the decision was indeed correct. The site is of a type considered by DMOZ to be unlistable and sending us an unlistable site, against our guidelines, is spam to us, even if the error was unintentional because you don't understand and we can't make you understand.

They were NOT classified as spam so it is obvious your classification of my site is grossly mistaken
Sites change, standards change, policies change, sites listed in the past that breach current guidelines are removed when they are discovered and an editor has time to do something about them - the same time constraints apply for that work as apply to reviewing new sites.

So all we can say is thank you for the suggestion, but it isn't for us, someone will deal with any sites that are listed that shouldn't be one day when they have the time.

I'll say one more thing then I must go and eat before I fall off my seat.

It is a common error for a webmaster to judge the listability of their own site by reference to other listed sites in the category they want to be listed in. Sometimes they read the guidelines and submission notices and the category description, see that their site isn't listable and still submit. Because there are other sites listed that seem to fall foul of the guidelines etc. Because it is fair. Or is it? Two wrongs don't make a right (in both senses of the word right). Sometimes they don't bother reading the guidelines and assume that the current listing make their own site OK.

Sites listed that don't comply with guidelines have usually been added many years ago. At that time listing policies were different and have since evolved. With 4 million sites listed, it is more or less impossible to keep an eye on them all in order to ensure they are all keeping up in terms of quality, listability, etc.

What we can do is make sure new entries all pass current guidelines. And when there is time go back and remove old listings that no longer comply.

So submitters must make their decision as to whether to make the suggestion based on current guidelines, current submission notices, current descriptions. They are welcome to report old listings that don't comply (there is a section of these forums for reporting such things). But it won't change the listability of their own site.

That is the fair and logical approach and is the one we use. Not to continue to accept unlistable sites because not all the existing unlistable sites have been removed yet. That route would be madness.

So all we can say is thank you for the suggestion, but it isn't for us...

You're very welcome, and I will finally agree with the editors that declined my site (though not necessarily for their reasoning behind it). :D

After this lengthy discussion and so much feedback from each of you, I am convinced that your directory is definitely not a place where I want to list my pretty site (and, this is heartfelt so please don't read any sarcasm into it) :D I am also convinced that this is not a forum that I would ever want to revisit or associate myself with. But, I still want to thank you for this enlightening thread and for taking up your volunteered time to respond. That is appreciated :)

Oneeye -- for Pete's sake -- go eat before you fall of your seat. You should also take some vitamins, that would give you energy.

I really have to get back to work and can't waste anymore time on this forum. :) My Mom just got out of the hospital and I'm a day behind on processing orders.

God bless and buh-bye. No hard feelings since I can never hold a grudge.
