Why Google is not listing my site?

Sigh. Sometimes the obvious things aren't obvious even when rubbed across olfactory organ...

Let me try this again.

The English section and the other sections of a multilingual site are almost never evaluated at the same time.

What does that mean?

It means you'll see one language section of a site reviewed and listed, and another language section not listed.

Not because editors are being unfair. Because editors don't all review the same site at the same time. Because editors who DON'T SPEAK EACH OTHER'S LANGUAGE don't coordinate their reviews. How could they? THEY CAN'T TALK TO EACH OTHER!

How else could it be? How else could it EVER be?

If you have proof of abusive activity then make an abuse report using the proper channels.

Otherwise, making across the board accusations against DMOZ editos is not a nice thing to do.

And FYI, since I recently was reviewing some bilingual sites, I found many of them that supposedly had English content, in fact had incomplete translation, or broken navigation and were not listable.

By incomplete translaton, I do not mean the translation was poor English, I mean that whole sections of text were just not translated. This is not uncommon, as is having English links on the sites that either do not lead anywhere, or go to the same section as the non English.

I didn't mean to hurt anybody, believe me.
But about that website I must tell you that it's a "delay" of about one year and a half from the aproval of the "other" language version till this moment (and the English version is still waiting).

That kind of delay is neither common nor extremely unusual. It has little significance: don't try to interpret it.

The site was verified with Xenu link sleuth and has the SAME information in English as in the other language. As a matter of fact, the English language website name has a different extension, so it was submitted independently.
I even don't know if you are the editor for my websites...
(God, help me not to be that way!... after this discussion... :) ) (joking)

As hutcheson wrote, it also matters what content is available on OTHER websites in that language.
We already list a lot of English directories so the bar can be pretty high. There is less competition in other languages.

Unfortunately, I cannot tell you here the name of the website due to DMOZ policy, but I can asure you that the website can compete with any other websites in that Regional category.

It's strange that none of the editors thought, even a second, that maybe... maybe this stupid geolyus (who worked a lot to release his website) can be right and somebody made a mistake. It's human! :icon_idea
But that kind of thoughts are for us, the mortals...

No one called you stupid. And most of the comments people have given were general comments about multilingual directory sites, not comments about your site in particular.

The fact that a multilingual listable site is listed quickly in one or more languages but waits a very long time for review in other languages is not a sign of abuse. It's just a sign that no one in those other languages has gotten around to reviewing it yet. You seem to be looking for someone to say "Oh, well, I'll go and list your English version right this very second, since it's already listed in other languages." and that just isn't going to happen -- posting here in this forum does not expedite your review. Someone will eventually get to it but we offer no ETAs or guarantees on when that will be.

Wrong... I don't expect anything from this forum. I only wanted to say that none of the editors said somethig like: "Maybe one of us was wrong!". All of you are saying the same: "We are ok, we never make mistakes, maybe your website is poor, or maybe it's a normal delay".
That was all I wanted to say. I don't beg anyone, please be sure of that.
I am a corect guy, and I ask the editors NOT to review or to aprove my website because I wrote those messages here.
Anyway they don't know the name of the website.
Thank you!

Any editor will tell you any day that maybe someone made a mistake. So far as I can guess, dozens of mistakes are made daily.

Any editor will tell you any day, the vast majority of edits are NOT mistakes -- they represent a step towards the better.

Any editor will tell you any day, you have no reason to think a mistake was made on your site. And all the things that you have mentioned are no reasons at all -- because they are NORMAL PHENOMENON.

Look at it this way. Suppose I looked at the sky and said, "look! a bird flying southward! that proves you made a mistake!"

What would you say? "It proves nothing of the kind... birds do that EVERY DAY!"

And then I could tell you, "so you think you're perfect!"

Wouldn't that be insane?

Why is the same kind of illogic not insane when you do it?

It was about responsability... illogic isn't it?
That's why I love the "as is" services. You cannot say anything because it's free, and that's enough, doesn't matter how you are treated.

One last question, please: is there any paid for inclusion directory with the same effect for search engines as DMOZ?
I've heard about Yahoo directory, it's similar the effect of inclusion for Google?

I realy have no idea. This forum is only for DMOZ. Not for Google and not for other directories. Maybe people in other forums can answer your question.

The ODP suggestion form is not a way for a webmaster to demand services (free or otherwise) from the ODP. It is a way for anyone (webmaster or not) to offer information to help the ODP.

It is the submitter's responsibility to follow ODP submittal policies. Violation typically results in editors being totally uninterested in any further "help" from that source.

The ODP is a "self-governing" community, that is, editors are responsible to the community itself. And the community is defined by Admins who are chosen by the site sponsor from among the volunteer editors.

Anyone may get a voice in the community by the simple expedient of demonstrating ability and willingness to contribute to the directory. That is, by becoming an editor and doing good work.

That somehow means that the editors are interested in their policies more than in the content of the websites. :icon_idea
Maybe it's a way to "help the ODP".

Dear hutcheson, I hope we are mature enough to understand that 99% of the submitter's are doing that for the importance that Google shows to the ODP.
Anyway, I got the ideea: any possible further information (that means websites submitted) from me will be totally uninteresting for the editors (especially for bobrat ;) ).
I wonder why didn't you said that from the begining, we have wasted a lot of time for nothing... Both of us.

Thank you all!

A Public Forum Sponsored and Moderated by ODP Editors > General Discussion > Using ODP Data > Why Google is not listing my site?
That was the reason I've asked that here.

I've already tried other forums, but I never underestimate answers from anyone.
Thank you very much, anyway!

First I did not answer a question about "why G is not listing my site", I answered "is there any paid for inclusion directory with the same effect for search engines as DMOZ?"

Secondly, "using ODP data" is for asking questions 'how to use the data' not about sites that are using the data. DMOZ has totaly no control over these sites. If you want to know how and why G is using the DMOZ data you will have to ask G.

hai,
i have submitted my site to DMOZ in apr 2005. I am not listed in directory. I m still waiting. I dont need status of my site. But i have doubt,
How can i find whether my site is eligible / not.
If not , Reason why it is reject by editor [ how can i know the reason ]
How much time i have to wait for my listing. [ at the maximum ]
when do i resubmit my site
Please help me..

Thank a lot in advance
Hi, Hmmm losts of questions.....
You are asking Google to do a lot for you, i.e taking your site and listing it for free. If you have 'meta tags' in your site google will eventually find it by its web crawler. By submitting your site manually they might send the crawler earlier rather than later, it might take up to a year so be patient. Once in the system you will stay there.
But remember its a free listing so even when you get listed you will probably be way down the list. Try using Google Adwords, yes it costs money but you get noticed tust me on this one.

Site Submissions Ignored or Rejected?

If I submitted my site 6 months ago and it is still not listed, does that mean it was rejected? I wish there was a system in place here to at least inform rejected sites. I can't figure out why I cannot get my site listed, I would really like to know. Just common courtesy I think.
