Ah, I see you found the right thread.
I merged your new thread with this one because the above responses still apply.

nicolaslaruelle - application queued normally, thanks for reporting this :)

thouvou - we need to have the subject line (starts with opendir) to try registering for you. Simply repeatedly sending the mail until you get a response other than a "mail error - relaying denied" usually works - sometimes three or four tries does the trick... :(

Hello,

I am attempting to become an editor for the http://www.dmoz.org/Shopping/Niche/Gothic/Jewelry/ category. Upon trying to reply to the confirmation email I received the same error as other people listed on this thread,

When I try and submit a new email to the address, copying and pasting the registration subject in, as well as the message, I receive a reply saying "Bad authentication ticket".

Any advice or confirmation that my application has been received and is in the queue would be absolutely wonderful.

Thank you,

Tish

Sorry Elper,

opendir - aad4ac2a14955cecd2f484f688543b27‏

I did manage to get it to go through, but got nothing back, not even in my junk folder (curse hotmail and its junking tendencies!).

Thank you for your help!

I merged your new thread into this existing one, because all the foregoing responses still apply.

Not if every time you tried to send it you got a failure notice like the one you posted above. You need to keep trying to send the reply until you get a different response:

A "thanks for your application" response confirms your application has been recieved.

A "can't find authentication ticket" response usually means that a previous attempt to confirm the application succeeded. (But it may also mean the system gave up waiting for the confirmation email. I'm not sure how long it waits, but it will be at least a few of days.)

No response at all will probably mean that the response has been caught in your spam filters. Have a look for it there, and if possible whilte-list the dmoz.org domain.

Are you suggesting I keep trying to reply to the DMOZ email untill it says successfull?

Quik Update:

After about 4-5 tries I got an email:

"Thanks for applying to become an editor!

You will receive a reply as soon as your application
has been reviewed. If you have questions, please
visit the public forums at

http://resource-zone.com/

to talk with one of our volunteers.
"

Thanks

E-mail is being rejected - failing to reach apply@dmoz.org - Mail Delivery Subsystem

Hi,

I was asked to reply to an e-mail to confirm my e-mail address is correct, but when I reply, it seems that my e-mail is not making it through. I believe it's getting rejected somehow and DMOZ is not getting it.

A Mail Delivery Subsystem e-mail is returned to me, saying:
The original message was received at Tue, 27 Oct 2009 09:49:08 -0400
- Show quoted text -
from fg-out-1718.google.com [72.14.220.154]

*** ATTENTION ***

Your e-mail is being returned to you because there was a problem with its
delivery. The address which was undeliverable is listed in the section
labeled: "----- The following addresses had permanent fatal errors -----".

The reason your mail is being returned to you is listed in the section
labeled: "----- Transcript of Session Follows -----".

The line beginning with "<<<" describes the specific reason your e-mail could
not be delivered. The next line contains a second error message which is a
general translation for other e-mail servers.

Please direct further questions regarding this message to your e-mail
administrator.

--AOL Postmaster

Any ideas on how to confirm my address? I've replied three times with the same result. The category I've applied for is http://www.dmoz.org/Regional/North_...siness_and_Economy/Advertising_and_Marketing/ and my username is jeffgswanson.

Thanks for any suggestions you may have!

Jeff

Confused regarding my application status.

Hi,

I applied for http://www.dmoz.org/Shopping/Publications/Books/Local_Interest/Asia/India/

Username
minimato

opendir - 634da1ac6d0e6febbba4222791647d98

October /28/ 2009

I received an application confirmation email and was told to reply back without changing the subject line. I did send the email thrice and all the three times I received an error and the mail was returned back to me ( It said the email was replied back due to permanent fatal errors etc.)

It is my humble request to any of the editor to please let me know the solution to this and also please let me know if my application has gone through.

Thanks,
Mini.

Please keep trying at intervals until you get a more sensible response. I think the record is around 20 attempts .
