I must admit that I was a little confused about that, so today I filled and submitted application form again.
I've received new registration key - opendir - 7cb6cc3da6024f99ff8a22e9fe29fdcd

After sending confirmation e-mail, received same answer.

Please let me know if my application is being considered.
cheers,

@beathoven79 - It's a mail server error on our side, sorry for the inconvenience.
The second application is now queued normally. I hope they were identical. :)

Same problem

Hopefully it is a temporary issue. I am having the same problem today. When I click on the link to Volunteer to edit this category, I receive this error:

Proxy Error
The proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream server.
The proxy server could not handle the request GET /cgi-bin/apply.cgi.
Reason: Error reading from remote server

Could someone please tell us if this is temporary or if the error is on our part?

Thank you,
Strutzas

Doesn't seem fixed for me. Can't apply to be an editor or email any editor on the site through the provided forms...

Please read the responses given above.
Sometimes it requires several attempts to submit an application to become an editor.
As for emailing individual editors, this is very rarely necessary or appropriate, but mostly the feedback does get through. Again, this is covered earlier in this thread.

@lovingrain: Your application is awaiting evaluation.

Thank you very much. I've got the reply from a reviewer, and modify my application by his comment. This time, I'm so lucky, I just try 3 times and get success, thanks again.

@manohar (and others) the confirmation sometimes has to be sent several times before our servers accept it. Basically you have to resend until you get a response other than the "Relaying Denied" error. If you are still having trouble, post the subject line (starts with opendir) and we will try for you.

The editor mailing bug is another issue entirely, dealt with elsewhere

Error when replying to Open Directory Application email

Hi

I applied to be an editor of the following category with the editor name pm71:
http://www.dmoz.org/Arts/Comics/Comic_Strips_and_Panels/Directories/

I received the confirmation email but got an error when I replied to it. The registration key in the email is: opendir - 0c1c8fcbce81b5fe57eb1dbf703992e2

Please could you confirm that the application is confirmed and in your queue?

Thanks

(The error is the same as others on this thread:

----- The following addresses had permanent fatal errors -----
<apply@dmoz.org>
(reason: 550 5.7.1 <apply@dmoz.org>... Relaying denied)

----- Transcript of session follows -----

@silenzushka:

Did you posted in this thread because you got an error when you tried to reply to the email confirmation message?

If so, please keep re-trying at intervals until you get a more sensible response. That's all that we can do so you might as well do it for yourself :).

Email Reply Error

I had an error with replying to the email in the submission. I replied via my gmail account and got an undeliverable message. I applied today November 7th, 2009. The reason came back as this - (reason: 550 5.7.1 <apply@dmoz.org>... Relaying denied)

I applied with the username duanehaas for the category http://www.dmoz.org/Recreation/Humor/Visual/

Thank you for the help.

Yes. The reason of post is a constant mail delivery error message. The error is persistent for a week. Do you have any ideas other than using the e-mail confirmation procedure?

Thank you for reply, anyway.

Failed email delivery

Hi!! I made a first application but was denied because the category was too broad.
I just made a second application today but when I was asked to reply to the first email to confirm my email address it keeps coming back with a Mail failure report. Is there anything I can do about this? Cos I know its not from my end.

Cheers.

I've moved your post into the running thread about this topic.

It's a known issue and the only fix is to keep trying at intervals until you get a more sensible response. A few times usually does it but as many as 20 attempts have been required by some.
