Unfortunately we are all waiting for AOL to get around to fixing this. In the meantime, see the solutions posted above. Thanks. :)

Of course, 2 seconds after I post here, I get a confirmation that it was received :) Sorry, please ignore.

opendir - 42271a07a1cd8449788183405e88a0f3

I've tried from 2 different email addresses, my own and a friend's, but same error several times. Can someone check to see if I got queued? Thanks.

The email confirmation ticket number means nothing to us humans. Perhaps you could tell us the proposed editor name and the category?

Application Process Failure Bypass in Gmail

For those of you who are applying via GMail, I was able to successfully bypass the relay failure by simply creating a new e-mail, setting apply@dmoz.org as the recipient, pasting my opendir code in the subject line and putting some text explaining that I was manually sending this. A few moments later, I got the application received e-mail. I hope this helps someone.

Hi Vimeshkumar, as mentioned earlier, you have to resend the mail (the subject line is all that matters) as often as necessary to get a reply other than "Relaying Denied" - if you want us to try for you, please post the subject line (starts with "opendir" ). Sorry for the inconvenience

Sir,

I've tried today also. But the same result. Could you please help me knowing my application status with the subject code?

Thanks.

Please keep trying at intervals until you get a more sensible response. That's all that we could do. I think the worst case took around 20 attempts but most succeed with fewer than that.

Hi,

I just found this forum thread, signed up and decided to post this message as I have the same problem with the confirmation email I see many others had when applying to become an editor.

I've tried several times to reply to the confirmation/activation email (even creating a new email and pasting in the data/subject) but each time the email is returned with a fatal error (reason: 550 5.7.1 <apply@dmoz.org>... Relaying denied).

I have made sure the subject is the same with the registration key but still have had no luck.

If someone could kindly help me with this issue I would really appreciate it!

Here are my details:
Editor Name: Sean Gallagher
User: gallaghersean
Category: http://www.dmoz.org/Regional/North_.../Pennsylvania/Health/Alternative/Chiropractic
Registration key: opendir - 67d5f6d042e1ccc51ce9eeb2cb61d74b

Thank you in advance for your help and I'm looking forward to becoming an editor!

Great! Thank you so much for helping on this. This means I don't need to do the whole email reply/confirm thing right? I just wait to hear back about my application, correct?

Yes, that's the correct reply :)

Sir,

could you please tell me the approximate time required to get a response. Or is it also just like the link submissions? I mean - will it take a long time to review?

One more doubt is - in case of rejection will there be any responses?

Thanks for your time.

At the moment, there are no outstanding applications older than about a month. In the English language categories, there are none older than 18 days.

On the other hand, some are processed within the hour :).

Yes, that's right. You should receive an email when it's reviewed.
