At the moment, there are no outstanding applications older than about a month. In the English language categories, there are none older than 18 days.

On the other hand, some are processed within the hour :).

Thank you very much Sir,

I'm very excited about this and waiting for the result eagerly. :) I think the category (http://www.dmoz.org/Arts/Literature/World_Literature/Indian/Malayalam/) which I've applied is a place with less attention as I could find only 2-3 links over there. So it may take longer to get my application reviewed. (;) Sorry If am wrong). It's just a week, So waiting with patience. :)

I think your application has been lost and you'll have to re-apply as suggested in the other thread. The problem is on our servers, so if you receive another dose of error messages and not a confirmation on your next application, please post again here.

Hi - I submitted an application to become an editor of the following category yesterday:

http://www.dmoz.org/Shopping/Pets/Cats_and_Dogs/Dogs/Training/Advice_and_Instruction/

The username that I had used in the application is "sourishsaha"

The subject line in the verification email that I received was:

opendir - 96ef7bfeea2bc3cee135cff132e3526e

When I replied to that email as instructed, I got an error message stating that the apply@dmoz.org email address had a fatal error.

Please let me know whether my application was successfully received.

Thanks,
Sourish

No it hasn't.

Please keep trying at intervals until you get a more sensible response. That's all that we could do. I think the worst case took around 20 attempts but most succeed with fewer than that.

Jim - did you mean that I need to keep on submitting my editor application, or did you mean that I should keep on resending the verification email?

Heads Up - Mails are Bouncing

Hi there

Sorry to have a whole thread on this, but there's no way to contact via site links it would seem.

I received my application acknowledgement with the registration key in the subject line of the email, with instructions to simply reply without changing the subject line to confirm.

But it bounced back. I tried from hotmail, web mail, and a couple other mail servers and the same bounceback occurred.

<<< 550 5.7.1 <apply@dmoz.org>... Relaying denied
550 5.1.1 <apply@dmoz.org>... User unknown
<<< 503 5.0.0 Need RCPT (recipient)

This also happened over the weekend when I clicked a contact mailto:link but I thought nothing of it and figured the "problem" would be solved shortly.

So, if you suddenly have a decline in editor applications, that might be why :p

I don't know if you need header info from that bounced email?

I'll check back here in a bit...

:D

Mediaguy, I merged your thread because as you can see, this is unfortunately a recurring problem. All we can advise you to do is to keep re-sending the verification email until you get a reply indicating that it's gone through. The tech people are aware of the problem but until they come up with a fix, there is nothing we can do other than keep trying. Sorry about that.

Ok I'll do that then...

BTW should we include a link to the directory we are applying for or does the link/form indicate wherefrom it issued... I don't think I included that :p

Hello,

I was also having that problem. I came to this thread and after reading to keep trying to send the confirmation email, I opened Outlook and was prepared to send it 20 or 30 times if needed.
Oddly enough, it went through at the first try, after having failed about 8 - 10 times, this afternoon.

Just wanted to thank for your help. :)

No problem... :D

Maybe you guys should include that in the aplication page.

"Now you need to confirm your email adress. If you get an error just try it untill our server gets tired and accepts it!" :D

Hope you guys find the solution for this. :D

The best is to keep trying. :D When it goes through, you will get an email saying your application was confirmed and to wait for an answer. :)

Did you receive a response other than a mail error? I couldn't find anything, I think you'll have to re-apply.

@PedroMaia - We hope that this issue will be fixed soon, but in the meantime, apart from in this forum, we don't have the possibility of adding a warning message. :(
