Yes, we can
Can we? Maybe you have some special skills in reading information intended for computer machines to process, not humans ?...

What I was trying to point out is that several people just provide that information - "opendir ...." - which is not enough to tell if an application is recieved or not. If people instead would provide their suggested editorname or category applied for, it would be much easier to tell if their application went through...

My apologies - request in the "correct" format below. However, I am not requesting an update - I was directed to this thread because when I replied to the email with the code in the subject, I got a delivery failed message. I am simply asking that someone confirm my app was received, then I am quite happy to wait in the queue like everyone else.

My details are:

Cat applied: Crowded House
Editor name: annaw
Date applied: 22 Jan 2010
Email subject line: opendir - 5cec946ec2d382d0ff1b80e91af40566
Email error message:

*** ATTENTION ***

Your e-mail is being returned to you because there was a problem with its
delivery. The reason your mail is being returned to you is listed in the
section labeled: "----- The delivery status notification errors -----".

The line beginning with "Diagnostic-Code:" describes the specific reason
your e-mail could not be delivered. The following lines contains the
RFC822 header of the original email message.

Please direct further questions regarding this message to your e-mail
administrator.

@annaw: You already had an affirmative answer in item204.

@kuboss: If you got a sensible answer when you retried, your application is valid. There was no need to (or harm in) change your email address; the servers are just looking for the opendir ticket number.

The help is already there in this thread. All you had to do was read it.

Please try again at intervals until you get a more sensible response.

Jim- Can you confirm if I'm now in the que? I've done what you've asked.

Since it seems too difficult for some people to read the "Important: Forum Guidelines"-thread, maybe it helps to put the first sentences of it here (bolding mine):

READ BEFORE POSTING IN THIS FORUM - Becoming an Editor Forum Guidelines
In order for everything to run more smoothly, we ask that you follow these simple guidelines:

FORMATTING YOUR REQUEST:
In the body of your post, include the following:
a clickable link to the dmoz.org category you applied to edit. The simplest way to do this is to copy and paste the ODP category you submitted to (i.e. http://www.dmoz.org/....).
the editorname that you used on your application.
the date that you last applied.

it is about the email reply, that is not working

I applied to be an editor an received a confirmation email with the subject line:

opendir - b91363ab0268681724a3a14c6c8d90fd

When I tried to confirm my application I received an error message stating a delivery failure:

*** ATTENTION ***

delivery. The reason your mail is being returned to you is listed in the
section labeled: "----- The delivery status notification errors -----".

Can you tell me if my email confirmation went through or can you help solve the problem?

thank you

Please try again at intervals until you get a more sensible reply. It can take quite a few attempts but we have no means of bypassing the process.

@schame: Please keep trying. It's taken as many as 20 attempts in the past.

There's nothing that we meta editors can do to bypass the process.
