For jildau

The post you made with abuse allegations against a specific, named editor has been moved, since it's against the forum rules here to make such allegations at Resource-Zone. The way to report suspected abuse is to go to http://report-abuse.dmoz.org/ and report it there -- that URL isn't working at the moment due to the ongoing technical issues, but as soon as they are resolved it will be possible to use the URL.

Your post wasn't deleted, btw, just moved to a forum where only meta editors have access. (As the editor you names isn't, in fact, a meta editor, s/he won't be able to see it.)

Thank you. {moz}

I see that my domain (www.imagine-it.co.uk) has been listed in a message here (on September 22, 2004, 01:39 PM).

I'm not sure what this forum is about so don't know why I'm listed or whether it's a good or a bad thing. Can someone tell me what I should do about it?

Thanks

It only means that at that time, the site was dead or redirecting or in some other way not functioning. A surfer remarked on that, and so the site was removed from the dmoz.org link directory. That's all -- it doesn't imply anything about the site at the moment and you don't need to do anything about it. (Especially since the site is listed now. I don't know how long it has been listed but it's there if you look at http://dmoz.org/Regional/Europe/United_Kingdom/England/Somerset/Claverham/ ).

This is a formal application for editing this catagory and subcatagories

I realize this cannot be done until your technical problems are fixed.

The last time any of these were checked by an editor was May 2005.

Under the http://dmoz.org/Games/Video_Games/Shooter/R/Rune/

Alto Games http://www.altogames.com/r/rune/index.html
This site has nothing to do with the game Rune except some early concept game art before it was released in October 2000. The rest of the pages are just advertising and inappropriate. There are no Rune "screenshots", "wallpapers" or "game information"
I would replace this url with a more relevent one whenever possible.

DragonSkiz's Realm http://dragonskiz.tripod.com/
The site has a new url and domain. Although this url will redirect you from Tripod to the new one, I would prefer the viewer not contend with Tripod's incessive popups until taken there. I would rather replace it completely with the new url instead, period.

RuneNews http://www.runenews.com/
Although still a good resource, it has been archived by Mindless Games for over three years now. The "News" is not updated anymore BUT is archived for information to anyone looking for past interviews, maps, mods et.c. The "Forums" have been shutdown and removed. Nor is there any longer a "Downloads" section as mentioned in the description. All I would do is take out the words "forums" and "downloads". Change the description to read: Archived News, screenshots, walkthroughs and other game information.

There a few general resource sites and urls I would like to add to this listing above that reflect the growth and continued popularity of this game.
------------------------------------------------------------------

Under /R/Rune/Clans and Guilds/
http://dmoz.org/Games/Video_Games/Shooter/R/Rune/Clans_and_Guilds/

Clan MacRune
http://dragonskiz.tripod.com/Rune/id9.html
This clan has been inactive for over three years although their url link is still good.

Clan VK
http://www.geocities.com/clan_vk/
Clan inactive since 2002 but their "Downloads" page still works for players to use. I would leave it as a map resource.

DSR (Deadly Soul Riders)
http://www.dsr.nu/
Their main informational site was hit by scriptkiddies sometime after the previous editor checked it. So a "Front page" was left up. The clan forums are active but were recently hit by hackers. A new url and site will be up in a few days and I would like to replace this present url with the new one when able.

ERF (Elite Rune Fighters)
http://members.ams.chello.nl/pcbeverl/
Clan inactive for three years although the url is good.

Head Hunterz
http://www.geocities.com/headhunterzruneclan/TheLonghouse.html
Clan inactive for over three years. Url still works

It is my intention to replace any inactive clan urls with active ones that are at least as old as these. Also add a few newer ones to reflect the game's growth over the last six years within it's Multiplayer community. This has been reflected in the number of serious mods, maps and other game developments to enhance the gamer's enjoyment.

My only qualifications stem from being the Admin for the Offical website of the Human Head Studios game Rune since March 2000 (joined the site in Feb 2000) I was asked by the developers through the main admin, Tricia "Kazi Wren" Serju, to help as a historical advisor during the game's development before the release in late October. By doing so, my interest in keep this particular catagory/subcatagories is uppermost and do have better insight as to what is current that would be helpful.

I have used DMOZ.com's "Open Directory" as a useful "search" and resource while looking up other links or sites (games or not) for many years. As an avid computer gamer since 1993, I believe I could help in other quarters as well if I was accepted as an editor.

When our servers are working again (soon, I hope) ...

For sites that you think should be added to the category, please use the "Suggest a url" link near the top right of the category page.

Or, even better, use the "Volunteer to edit this category" link at the bottom of the page, and put the three best ones in your application.

Be sure that you put all relevant information you want considered into the application itself, whoever reviews it may not read or even know about this thread.

The interest (and the work you've already done) is appreciated. But there's nothing that any of us can do right now....except what you're doing: mark lint in the public categories for later cleanup. Keep it up, I hope you like it, because that's basically what editing is.

I do understand what you are going through. My own site went through similar problems starting in very late 2004 and did not end until Jan 2005. Our server host folded and all hosted sites were taken over by another. Because the former host used "in house" coding, it was a headache for the new webtechs to decypher while cleaning up any site that had problems.

So the head admin and I were both in the same boat explaining what was going on why some aspects of the site could not be accessed anymore and lost an important url about game editing tutorials. Then asking the community to bear with us for as long as it took til everything was working completely again. They were patient and the responses were fantastic. The forums were upgraded and a community member had saved all the tutorials on his site (he was a mod and map maker) and offered them back. I made some tweaks where possible and now everything works.

I expect there will be a big sigh of relief when all the volunteer, suggest a url and editor applications buttons work. At least a breather before the "rush"

Sites that are inappropriate for DMOZ

Hi there,

I'm reporting the following sites (along with the reasons they're inappropriate) for editing purposes:

From the category http://www.dmoz.org/Top/Regional/North_America/Canada/Business_and_Economy/Directories/

The site in question is celebrate.ca. Celebrate.ca is a "member" of the GoPro.ca "network" of sites which are nothing more than a series of low-content sites designed to promote the parent company, N49 Interactive (n49interactive.com).

The listings within these "networked" sites generally number no more than 15, and are all paid listings which are "reverse billed" in some cases (i.e. the listing is provided, and then the customer is billed retroactively for the link without having approved of the charge beforehand.)

From the category
http://www.dmoz.org/Top/Regional/No...s_and_Economy/Computers_and_Internet/Internet

The site in question is EServes Canada (http://www.eserves.ca/). This is a blatant search engine manipulation attempt on two levels (one obvious, one not so much):

1) The obvious attempt is on the bottom of the page with the anchor text keyword stuffing attempt.

2) The not-so-obvious attempt reveals itself when the source code is viewed. The company that built this site makes use of the <noframes> tag to present different content to browsers that don't use frames (and to search engines as well) than it does to frames-compatible browsers.

From

http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_Amer..._and_Economy/Legal_Services/Criminal_Lawyers/

The site in question is John M. Rosen (torontocriminalattorney.com). The official website is not this one (this is a parked domain); it's http://www.rosenlaw.ca/ .

Thanks.

Re. celebrate.ca

Yes it would appear that http://www.n49webnetworks.ca/brands.html would be better listed at first glance.

Re. eserves.ca

Site design is not an aspect we use to judge a site - unless it gets in the way of using the content. In this case while trying to game the search engines is poor practice it really isn't relevant to listability. The use of <noframes> to deliver alternate content to non-frame browsers is exactly what the <noframes> tag is for (similar to the <noscript> tag).

Re. Rodesnlaw.

Thanks for the heads up. This may already be fixed. The current public directory is a backup and is not the most current version of the directory which will return when the technical problems have been fixed.

Trojan Found at site...

Greetings!

When browsing the category: http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Antiques_and_Collectibles/Ephemera/Periodicals/

I clicked on the site named "C-Bub's Magazine Vault" and McAfee threw a fit.

Not certain what the ODP's policy is regarding something like this, but there ya' have it!

(I'm scanning my PC at this time, BTW)

Cheers

(Edit)

While I'm here...

This site in the same category is "under development": Tilleys Vintage Magazines
