It's not necessary to have a thread dedicated to linking requests so I've merged that thread with this one.

The Shareware Author's category

I would like to point out to any editors the following problems with 23 sites listed in the category

1. Ali Adams - Author of MultiClipboard, FuzzyLib, 1stTalk for kids, and LoveLine for Windows. Intelligent Data research and Helical Particle Waves theory

It is not shareware. Its freeware and development tools. Wrong Category

2. Atereon, Inc. - Developer of AtFileIo, AtFinCalc and other ActiveX development libraries
Not updated since 2001. Looks like a dead site.

3. Ax-Soft - Developers of anti-pop-up software and NetGuard to control, limit and block access to Internet by sites or keywords
Not updated since 2002. Looks like a dead site

4. Bohlmeijer, Albert - Software developer, and author of shareware and freeware. Also, travel tips for Malaysia/Indonesia/Thailand.
I don't see any shareware

5. Bowers Freelance Software - Specializing in front-end and middleware using Visual Basic, Microsoft Access, MS C++, Interdev, ASP, VBScript, Frontpage, Flash, SQL-Server and Oracle, N-tier, DLL/COM/ADO, Q&A and FoxPro conversions, and report creation.
Wrong category. There is no shareware. They are advertising to do custom programs.

6. Branislav Stofko - Shareware and freeware utilities, contains Czech, German and English descriptions of all the programs. [DOS/Windows 95/NT]
Not updated since 2002. Looks like a dead site

7. David Spelts Software - CGI scripts and windows shareware available for download.
Wrong category. Belongs in Freeware

8. The Duckbill Group - The platypus of programming. Christmas card software, data compression, small business information and others.
I don't see any shareware

9. Duneram Software - Collection of freeware, shareware, programmer's aids and retail programs for sale. Developer of web pages for personal, business and governmental use.
I see some tools for sale but I don't see any downloads. Thus not shareware and the wrong category

10. EpplerSoft - A small development firm started by Steven Eppler. Currently two products are available, BootLocker security software and WinStik desktop reminders.
Wrong category They resell hosting. There is no shareware

11. Five Dollar Shareware - A few odd scripts in Perl, PostScript, and Forth.
Wrong category. Its Donationware. I don't think that's a dmoz category though so I'd put it in the freeware since continued use does not need payment.

12. Hard Drive Menu System - Utility manager to use with DOS and Win 95/98.
Not updated since 1997

13. HeadStrong - Official home of HeadStrong and Moritz Bartl freeware and shareware products include WebClicker, ICQr Information, ID3KILL, and OFCC.
No news since 2002 and no new products since 2002. There is an active forum.

14. inKline Global, Inc. - Leading developer and publisher of award winning connectivity and productivity programs for home and office computer users.
Not a shareware site. Looks like a software store using the domain for hits. Wrong category

15. Innersky Software - Developer and publisher of CoolZip, compression and decompression tool. Winslide 2000 a slideshow screen saver to use personal images and sounds. Launch 98, small tray launcher.
Not updated since 2001 except in March 2005 to announce development of a new website. No products since 2001

16. Kairosapps DEX - Simple to use but extremely useful Windows rolodex program. For Windows NT, Windows 95, and Windows 3.x.
I don't see any shareware. Wrong Category plus you have to follow a link to a new site.

17. PADfiles - Get the best shareware and freeware for Windows, straight from the authors. Developers can submit PAD files.
Its in another language. But the description says it belongs in another category.

18. Panorama Java Applet - An image panning and Java applet slide show that enables users to pan and browse in 3D through scenes.
Page not found. Dead Site.

19. Savvin, Peter - Developer of math software, that covers solving and graphing linear and quadratic equation, factoring trinomials and special quadratics. Selection of games, and communication software for download.
Message on site says it all. This site is no longer in operation

20. SoftProfile - Juggler is a window manager to set any window to be always on top of other windows.
Wrong category. Should be in freeware

21. SpeedScape Software - Many genres of software developed with Visual Basic 6 such as guitar lesson software, tab book, chord charts, recipe catalogue, parental control software and several others.
Not a shareware company. Its a site for a Horse Ranch

22. StilipitSoft - Develops shareware and freeware games and utilities for the Macintosh.
Directory displayed

23. Thierry PARIS - Developer of shareware and freeware, products are FileBank, Favorite Folders, and FileSpy.
Page not found. Dead Site

Yes I applied to be an editor. I was rejected but I assumed I would be accepted. So I did this work. Now I share it with you.

#1683 - Thanks for your efforts. I have dealt with it as best I can. Maybe a Computers editor will take a second look at some of those below.

4. Bohlmeijer, Albert - It's not all freeware. That's all I can say.

2, 3, 6, 12, 13 and 15. I won't touch these, as I don't know enough to judge whether the software still works/is useful.

5, 8 and 11 leaving for someone more computer-savvy.

14. inKline Global, Inc. - As far as I can see this firm is still selling its own products, though it's confusing when the first thing you see on offer is McAfee SpamKiller.

23. Thierry PARIS - the site is not dead. They just changed the page.

From #1683:

5 - moved to: Computers/Companies/Software_Development/Freelance

8 - moved to: Computers/Software/Freeware/Developers/

11 - I've left where it is but added a tag to the description to indicate that it is donationware rather than shareware.

Cheers,
Andy :)

#1694 - you feel there should be more deeplinks from this site? Or are you surprised by the number?

This site is in part a directory. We would not normally list deep links of a directory. If you spot any, it could be worth mentioning here. However it also contains thousands of documents and articles. Without reviewing all the deep links myself, I would guess that they are to the latter, rather than to website reviews.

being in a mild mood today, it is beyond what I expect when visiting ODP. Furthermore, bearing in mind that there are that many websites that are not listed once in ODP, it is in deed amazing that some editor spend that much time deep-linking this catholic "portal". So yes, 52 listings are nuts, can not see any balance in regards of many other sites
that are not listed and never will be.

Some sites have many more deep links than this one. Try the BBC (4873 listings) or Project Gutenberg (2392 listings). It all depends on content and editorial judgement of same.

Some sites which were enthusiastically deep-linked early on in the history of the ODP have lost a lot of those listings as editors re-reviewed them. That process will surely carry on. But I don't see it as an urgent necessity in this case. The number of links in itself is not a worry.

Re: #1699
#1 – done
#2 – This listing seems fine as the description matches the listed URL.
#3 – I found two listings not three. The Wine deeplink may not be appropriate as the main URL is in the same category, however I will leave it to an editor more familiar with Regional: Italy.
#4 – done (URL updated)
#5 – Listed correctly with the root URL.

Thanks for your help :)
